These two posts by Paul Thurrott help show there's still questions Microsoft needs to answer about upgrades:

Gonna pick up some cheap OEM licenses of XP or 2000 of eBay and upgrade using those. Going to upgrade my main machine before moving to Windows 7 to avoid any OEM hassles. Quad core with 4-8gb of ram should be good enough for a while.

Microsofts site is showing the full version of Windows 7 Home Premium for $199. Could be a chance that will drop closer to $150-175 on sale somewhere.

I just read that the OEM versions are tied to whatever motherboard you install it on. LAME. So if my motherboard dies...so does my version of windows.

I'm tempted by this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116677&Tpk=32-116-677
$109 for Vista Home Premium OEM, and a free upgrade to Win 7. Only thing I would like better is an OEM version of Win 7...but there's always the chance it will cost more.

From what I've read, you can't upgrade a bootleg version of XP. Or at least I keep reading that XP has to pass the WGA check first. Hmm.

Still deciding if I should get this. Does the upgrade check to make sure you're using a legit version of windows first?
