He tells a group of workers at a Pennsylvania glass factory that he wouldn't take away any of their guns even if he had the votes in Congress and just wants to keep them out of the hands of gang bangers and drug dealers (which the law already prohibits, funny how criminals don't obey the law) . The problem is he doesn't say anything about carrying in public and future gun purchases or other restrictions. Sure he might leave the guns I currently have alone, but what does the future hold? The best indicator for the future is Obama and Biden's positions in the past on gun control.

Little bit of everything in there. The funny thing is Obama is starting to move to the center a little now that he doesn't have to compete against other Democrats. Previously, there was confusion about whether or not he supported the DC Handgun ban that was recently overturned. He now says he thinks the 2nd Amendment gives an individual right, but so far his voting record demonstrates he wants to limit and closely regulate those rights. Biden is definetely far to the left and this liberal thinks they should cover up his views on gun control because it might lead to a Democratic loss.
Stay on topic and please site references or statistics to back up any arguments like "banning handguns reduces crime". Gun control might not seem like a big deal, but there are plenty of people clinging to their guns and religion who take it very seriously. If you want an analysis on McCain and Palin positions I can put that together too.

Chalk one issue up for McCain. And if people don’t think the President matters, just look at the overturn of the DC gun ban. That wouldn’t happen without conservatives on the bench, and without McCain we won’t get them.
at least obama is being careful, McCain is only doing backround checks, anyone can make a false backround… and stiffer penalties for people who use guns in crimes? Whats that gonna acomplish? They’ll only come out of jail and do it again!!!
How is he being careful? Gun bans don’t keep guns out of the hands of criminals, only out of the hands of law abiding citizens wishing to defend themselves. If a criminal really wants a gun, I doubt they’ll risk going to an FFL and trying to do a legit buy, they’ll go to their local “transferred ownership” goods dealer. Here in California they will deny your background check if you don’t spell out the full name of your state of birth, I just don’t see people making up a “false background” and walking out with a gun.
Funny thing is face to face transfers of Curios & Relic (50 years or older, semi-automatic or bolt-action) long guns aren’t restricted at all in California. A criminal could illegally acquire a nice M1 Garand in .30-06 for under $1000 without much trouble, but I have to wait 10 days to buy a new .22 plinker that would have trouble on anything bigger than a squirrel. And that seems to work fine, because you don’t hear about gangs walking around with WWII military surplus rifles (which fire incredibly powerful rounds compared to popular pistol calibers).
